Love and Fear

1 John 4:18 reads:

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."

But Niccolò Machiavelli said:

“And here comes in the question whether it is better to be loved rather than feared, or feared rather than loved. It might perhaps be answered that we should wish to be both; but since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved.”

And then someone vetted:

"Indeed Machiavelli is right. But curious enough, if a person forgives, does this mean he loves, and the same time removes fear from punishment?

Indeed, a person that forgives, conquers fear, by choosing love.

For that person is the greatest, for being  fearless, and yet in love."
